In Megalo (or “Mia”) Chorio (i.e. Big Village) used to be the biggest and best organized miners’ settlement, with many residencies, schools, churches, two hospitals, grocery stores, tailor shops and shoe shops. The village was in its heyday in the early 20th century, but shortly after the mines’ closure it was gradually abandoned. Today it is almost deserted and what you will find there is mainly ruins, as well as the entries of some mining galleries.
