Pirgos

Between Panagia and Galani you will meet a very small settlement, Pirgos, which used to be the second of the island -in existence- after Chora. It took its name from an ancient Roman building that did not survive till this day (pirgos = tower in Greek). The houses have been mostly abandoned due to lack of basic infrastructure, but every year on the 15th of August the past’s liveliness returns with a beautiful feast.
